Epitome, crafted from our home estate vineyard in Stags Leap District, is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon made in exceptionally limited quantities from only the most remarkable vintages. The wine opens with intense aromas of blackberry, strawberry, and black currant, which mingle with elegant hints of cinnamon spice and cigar box. On the palate, flavors of deep black raspberry and cherry pie are accented by allspice and nutmeg and balanced by round tannins. Enjoy with osso buco or duck confit.
This intense, dark ruby wine offers a rich and enticing nose, filled with aromas of ripe blackberry, fresh strawberry and luscious blackcurrant, woven beneath elegant layers of cinnamon spice, cigar box and subtle cedar. Opening smoothly, with a rush of deep black raspberry and cherry pie, the palate is supple and balanced by hints of sweet allspice and nutmeg, round tannins and a hint of graham cracker crust on the lasting finish.
With consistently mild temperatures throughout spring and summer, 2012 was a stellar vintage in Napa Valley, allowing slow, even ripening and yielding exquisite, balanced fruit. The wine was fermented in French oak puncheons and punched down by the hand daily. Fermentation took place at a high temperature to ensure that maximum extraction was achieved before the wine was racked to 100 percent new French oak barrels for aging.
Block Three and Four of the Pine Ridge Estate Vineyard were exclusively selected to tell the story of the 2012 vintage through this stellar bottling. These blocks are situated on the easternmost edge of the Stags Leap District property and are made up of densely planted vines that are twelve years old and are trained low to the ground, in order to produce low yields with optimal, even ripeness.

Deep and concentrated, the 2012 Epitome Cabernet Sauvignon would make an excellent pairing for a number of beautiful meals, including Osso Buco with saffron risotto or duck confit with seasonal vegetables. This exclusive bottling would also pair well with aged Manchego, a hard, flavorful sheep’s milk cheese from Spain, for an unforgettable cheese course.
The wine was racked to 100 percent new French oak barrels for aging, and was aged in barrel for a total of 18 months before bottling.
